Yesterday, we saw Dell’s Slate concept for the first time. Today, we got to actually play with it. And it’s called the Mini 5. (Btw, if you want to read yesterday’s stories on the slate, check here .) Specs that we know: custom Android, SIM (it makes calls), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. And the 5-inch screen supports full multitouch. In your hand, it’s very light and comfortable to use. The screen is responsive, and Dell’s icon interface makes for intuitive presentation ofAndroid. It feels a bit more like plastic than, say, the iPod touch

Dell has showcased a new Internet tablet at CES in Las Vegas, and it is to be called the Mini 5. With a 5-inch screen and the open-source Android operating system, it looks like Dell’s got a winner. It’s pretty in pictures, but held in the hands of any normal person, the Dell Mini 5 Internet tablet looks more like a cell phone than any Internet tablet you’re used to seeing. It’s quite thin, and it even sports a built-in SIM card slot, as a matter of fact. This sort of makes it an over-sized smartphone, pitted up against current mobile browsing favorites like the Apple iPhone, Nokia N900 and HTC HD2.

There are also two cameras onboard the Dell Mini 5: a 5MP camera at the back and a front-facing camera presumably for video calls. Dell hasn’t released any info about pricing and most importantly, battery life, but a multi-touch screen and Android make the Dell Mini 5 a sweet device at any price point below $500.
